its nice to finally see some love for Sean both outside of Philly and from Flyers fans. Too many wanted to quit on him after a few rough seasons but he proved everyone wrong |

Coots has been an excellent player from day one. He has been tasked as a shut down center his whole career. He finally got to play with more offensively gifted players and he has a "breakout year". All he needed was two good wingers. |

Kopitar had a bounce-back season this year, scoring a career-high 35 times on his way to a career-best 92 points, good for seventh in NHL scoring. Couturier Had 76 points.
Kopitar led all NHL forwards in ice time with 1,810:58, an average of 22:05 per game. This is all the more impressive given that the Kings were the top club in the league in terms of team defense, allowing a league-low 2.45 goals per game.
Kopitar was also a force shorthanded, averaging 2:10 per game on the NHL’s top penalty-killing unit.
And his faceoff prowess has never been better, taking 37 percent of the Kings’ faceoffs, the third-highest percentage in the NHL. His faceoff win rate of 54.1% led the Kings
It’s no contest.. |

Yet another meaningless NHL trophy where no one bothers to look at what the trophy is supposed to be awarded for. It's for the player who demonstrates the most skill in the defensive aspect of the game, but it's always decided by offensive production. |

WRONG.
It's awarded to a FORWARD who demonstrates the most skill in the defensive zone.
There does need to be a few more Defensive awards given out other than the Norris though.
Best Defenseman in the Defensive zone definitely needs to be an award in the near future. |

Mr. Tessier, I don't know what you mean by despite the coach in terms of Couturier. The coach is the guy who put him on the first line with Giroux and played him in better situations to reach the level of production that he did. |

He's not wrong. If yuo don't produce well offensively you have little chance of winning a Selke. If Couturier had scored 45 points this year, he would not have been nominated.

Watched every Flyers game and Couts finally getting respect is great, He showed he can play offense and beyond just having good linemates his confidence was through the roof, He was shooting, he was getting into sweet spots, world of difference from the last few years on the "O" end of things, Whats odd is he's had better seasons on the D End, he was good but the last third of the year or so he was prone to some mistakes that are not common for him, a few bad clears, a few lost battles but overall I think he's easily the winner this year, with still room to grow. Kopitar is a great player but his' D doesnt compare directly to Couts, Faceoffs are probably his only advantage. |

I follow enough Flyers people to know that there are some serious concerns about Hakstol and his decision making. Did he do something right with Coots- yes but he also did a lot of odd things that could have hurt him too. |

I'd like to know who these Flyers people are. You just gave a non-answer. Here are the facts Peter. He coached a team with holes in the lineup, and a lot of young players to a 10 point increase in points from the previous year to the 3rd spot in a tough Metro division and a playoff berth. All of the young players under Hakstol are thriving under him. The team's GM has publicly stated that he is happy with the job that Hakstol has done to this point.
I'd be happy to discuss anything concrete that you have if you offer it concerning Hakstol. My guess is that you're paying attention to the wrong "Flyers people".

Peter, just stop it. Just stop it right there. Don't go and get MJL fired up bro. Concede on this one point.
I like what you said about coots. He should get the nod on this award. But Hak is not holding coots back. Just the opposite.
Coots is not the big name but he will be soon. |
